Javea Port

Javea Port is known mainly because of the beach La Grava. People often comment on the kind of sand on this beach especially after they have been to the Arenal beach. The two beaches are about 2.5 km away from each other. The restaurants here are also good and play some good music especially in the evening. Fish is always popular on any restaurant menu in Javea port, as there is local fishing fleet and market based here.
Javea port is full of festivals especially August onwards. The Moors fiesta is an enactment or re-playing the drama of conquering Spain again. Most visitors love Javea Port because of a great mix of the old and the new. It is also a very good mix of both Spanish and foreign residents, making for some interesting sights and conversation.
Neustra Senora del Carmen is a great time of celebration for the fishermen and sailors. They have a huge boat with a Virgin Mary sitting on it adorned with wreaths made of beautiful flowers. This is the place where prayers are offered to people at sea. To be a part of this whole procession is something wonderful as you get to see the cultural aspect of Javea first hand and when it is at its best.
There is a modern Church at the Port, with the internal ceiling in the shape that looks like a hull of a ship. The story of this hull goes something like this – the fishermen once were faced with a powerful storm and when they prayed, they were saved from this terrible storm which had seemed impossible. That is why the fishermen prayed to Nuestra, Senora de Loreto and promised to build a church if she saved them from the storm. The outside look of the church is quite different from the usual churches with a very modern look.
Make sure you visit Javea port at least once on your Javea holiday.
