Javea Old Town
The Old town of Javea is located on a hill, a little way from the shoreline. The original Spanish culture is actually preserved in the Old town and you will still see some things you may have read in books about ancient Spain. The town hall and other old heritage buildings which have stood the test of time speak volumes about the works of ancient Spanish people involved in construction of such a building. There are still those old cafés which were and are still family owned. If you enquire you will probably find that it’s the grandson of the owner who is taking the bill for the coffee you just drank. The Old Town is actually full of some wonderful surprises. You will discover things you have never seen or heard of before. That is why it is worth visiting.
The Old Town also gives a glimpse of what Javea was when development had not taken place and tourists did not visit. The shops have become better as they have all the products which you would otherwise get in a a large shopping center. You can also get those things which you forgot to get such as a swimsuit or sunscreen. The bodega is a great place to get some great wine which is quite rich in taste and will turn out to be quite cheaper than any of the wine shops in your own city. The wine is genuine and tasty, something you can enjoy along with the family at your Javea holiday villa.
Many people plan to visit Javea in April because of the holy week of Semana Santa. It is a parade accompanying Virgin Mary with a lot of other characters playing different people. The parade walks along the street entertaining everyone. The Feria de Artesanas is also an event which is held in the Old Town. It is fair which features local specialties of foods and hand crafted goods. These are made by the Javea locals and the Feria de Artesanas attracts a lot of tourists. Some people buy holiday gifts to give to their loved ones who they have left back home.
At the heart of Javea old town is the church San Bartolome. This church is more than 500 years old. The specialty of the structure of this church is that it is made of a material called as “Tosca”. Tosca is a type of stone which is found deep inside the sea. This stone may have been available on normal ground level at the time the church was built.
The Old Town is just amazingly special time at Christmas. A lot of tourists come here to celebrate their Christmas holidays with their children, and is a treat not to be missed.
